Field Dog Stud Book Registration

A dog carrying a Field Dog Stud Book pedigree is a dog of distingued lineage.

What is Field Dog Stud Book?

A record-keeping institution for more than 140 years, Field Dog Stud Book and original publisher American Field Publishing Company has long upheld and produced pedigrees of merit. Field Dog Stud Book records are the oldest purebred dog registration documents in the United States. A dominate mark of legitimacy in the upland field trial canon, these pedigree records date to 1874 and comprise several million dogs of all breeds.

United Kennel Club (UKC) acquired Field Dog Stud Book and its original publisher, American Field Publishing Company, in September 2021.

Already a longtime steward of authentic documentation, UKC offers a myriad of registration options for dog owners and breeders, now including Field Dog Stud Book registration and certified pedigrees for those eligible. For general UKC Registration (for all breeds and mixed breeds) unrelated to Field Dog Stud Book lineage, please see the Registration section of the UKC website. A leader in archival lineage and ever at the forefront of dog sports and verified breeding records, UKC was founded in 1898. Through sporting programs and competition standards, UKC provides the platform to evaluate dogs' skills and ancestry while also maintaining essential breeding records to help owners and breeders make informed decisions.

Owners and breeders interested in pursuing Field Dog Stud Book bloodlines will find UKC ready to help in the continued cataloging and preservation of these records.

Value of Field Dog Stud Book Enrollment for Your Litter

  • Establishes permanent FDSB record of the entire litter.
  • Simplifies registration process for your pup buyers.
  • Signifies excellence of lineage.

How To Register Your Pups

  1. When two FDSB dogs are bred and produce a litter, complete & mail a Litter Enrollment Form within six months of whelping to indicate your request for FDSB Litter Enrollment Certificate.
  2. UKC will process and grant FDSB Litter Enrollment status for those eligible and mail the breeder one Enrollment Certificate in return. It will contain the unique, official Litter Enrollment number for that litter.
  3. The next step, within one year from whelping and after official Litter Enrollment status has been obtained, is to register each pup invidually using the unique Litter Enrollment Certificate credentials. This step can be completed by the breeder or new pup owner.
  4. If the pup is to be sold, the breeder must complete the bottom portion of the Registration Application prior to the pup buyer submitting that application as a final step in the registration process. Note: only pups that are part of an Enrolled litter are eligible for FDSB registration. If a dog offered for registration is from another recognized stud book, please indicate as such on the application and follow the required additional steps.
  5. Once the Registration Application is submitted and processed, congratulations! You now have a fine dog of FDSB lineage. Next up, enter a field trial and start earning passes.
