Amateur Shooting Dog Winners: Justin Mason with Backwoods Wild Fire Blaze, Dave Hughes (judge), Krysta Munden with Wildland Wild Man, Mark Hughes (judge), and Eric Munden with Wildland Warrior.

On November 18, the Pennsylvania Amateur Grouse Dog Club held its fall trial at the Beaver Valley Pointer and Setter Club. Thank you to Beaver Valley and its officers for their generosity as a last-minute venue and date change due to a scheduling conflict that didn't allow the trial to run in Marienville, Pennsylvania, as originally scheduled. Thank you to Norm Meeder for the use of his ATV and to Mark and Dave Hughes for providing their side-by-side and for stepping in at the last moment to judge the Amateur Shooting Dog stake. Thank you to Al Fazenbaker and Eric Munden for judging the Amateur Puppy stake. The judges' decisions were all met with applause.

The day kicked off with the Amateur Puppy stake. Rob Matson's English setter female, Anna Lake Kali, came out on top with a strong finish and fancy hard hunting race. In second place was Backcountry Mickey, a white and orange pointer male owned by Chris Catanzarite and handled by Tyler Bowser. Mickey hunted hard, investigating all likely bird areas.

The always hotly contested Amateur Shooting Dog began at the conclusion of the Puppy. Justin Mason's Backwoods Wild Fire Blaze brought home first after laying down an impressive race with six finds. Finishing in second was Wildland Wild Man, owned and handled by Krysta Munden. Wild Man (Wayne) worked well with this handler with a hard-hunting fancy race, scoring three finds. In third was Wildland Warrior, owned and handled by Eric Munden. Warrior ("Lola") hunted with a moderate range, scoring two finds.
Thank you to everyone who came out to participate and support the trial. We look forward to seeing you all in the spring!
