Oklahoma OSD Ch24

Oklahoma Open Shooting Dog Championship Winners (l-r): Tom Curtsinger, Bob Barker, Harold Gearheart with Hale's High Flyer, Eddie Taylor, Frank Schoenborn (judge), Greg Gibson (judge), Virgil Moore with Touch's Steely Dan, and Johnny Van Horn.

We started early and had good weather, highs in the 40s and lows in the 20s but sun and mild winds. Birds were good, as we had birdwork in all braces with a good number of quality dogs. The handlers did a good job and helped when they could. Our judges were experienced and looked at each dog. Here is what they decided.

Named champion was Hale's High Flyer (Taylor) who ran a very nice race, handling and responding well to Eddie. She was nice moving, pointing, and pleasant. She was rewarded with five nice finds and was well-mannered with a good finish.
Touch's Steely Dan (Moore) is a nice-looking pointer owned by John Van Horn Jr. of Arkansas. He also did a very good job running fast on the ground with style and grace. He handled very well, coupled with three nice finds, earning him runner-up.

First place in the Open Derby was Stylish Undeniable (Curtsinger), who put on a good show with a very nice race and handling.
In second, Pretty In Pink (Moore), a nice pointer female, did a nice job on the ground and had a good race.
Third place was High Enchantress (Hadley), another nice pointer female, who also ran a good race, handling nice, fast, and pretty to boot.
I want to give a great big thank you to John and Milissa Gains for providing hot lunches and refreshments and just for coming to support us. I also want to thank all those who helped with the trial.
