The Southern Field Trial hosted its annual renewal of the Masters Shooting Dog Championship beginning on March 1, 2024. Wildfair Plantation, owned by Joe Davenport; Pineland Plantation, owned by the Mellon family; and Nonami Plantation, owned by Ted Turner, never looked better.
Judges Greg Shepherd of Leesburg, Georgia, and Jason Williams of Blakely, Georgia, rode for 5 and a half days to render their well-received placements. Fifty-four dogs were drawn, and fifty-four dogs started over these pristine wild quail-ladened acres.

Named Champion was Waybetter Rocky, pointer male owned by Bill and Muriel Prim and Allen Linder with Mike Tracy on the whistle. The Runner-Up Title was awarded to Panther Creek Rosie pointer female for owner Frank Rutland with Tommy Rice, III handling. Both performances were strong, and each dog had multiple crisp finds.

A full report will follow.
