Pacific Coast Open Shooting Dog Championship (l-r): Nicholas Schade, Chris Perkins, Emily Deasy, James Wallace, Mark McFarlin, Tyler Schillereff, Mel Lueck, Tim Schillereff, Thomas Griffin with Battle Born Bette, Jim Ledington with BK Bulletproof, Landen and Chase Cochran, Sergio Velez, Cliff Mesnard, Phill Bowden, and Josh Miller.

The 124th running of the Pacific Coast Championships was run on the beautiful Imperial Ranch in Maupin, Oregon, for the fourth year. The entries are getting bigger, even with a few of our regulars not being able to make it this year. Our Drawing was held on Friday, March 22, at the River Side Bar and Grill. We had a great turnout, with 26 dogs in the Pacific Coast Shooting Dog and 21 in the All-Age.

The Pacific Coast Shooting Dog Championship started on Monday, March 25, with a cold but beautiful day to run dogs. Our judges were James Wallace from Ohio and Cliff Mesnard from California. Thank you both; you did a great job. Our champion was Battle Born Bette, owned and handled by Thomas Griffin. Tom was on a hot streak; he had just won the National Amateur Chukar Championship the day before with his dog, Love Train. Way to go, Tom. Our runner-up champion was BK Bulletproof, owned by Sergio Velez, Phil Bowden, and Rod Lecher and handled by Sergio Velez.

The Champion's Race
In brace 2, bottom dog Bottle Born Bette's run was just what the judges were looking for--a strong to-the-front race that flowed across the terrain but did not reach all-age statues. Bette did that with two finds, one at 18 and the other at 46, with great style and perfect birdwork.

The Runner-up Champion's Race
In brace 9, top dog Hirollins B K Bulletproof started strong up the draw, hitting all the rimrock. He was found to the front on point at 25. He had his second find, a 43, and finished the hour strong to the front. He was a big running dog from start to finish.

The Running
Brace 1: BK Westcoast Remi, a pointer male owned and handled by Sergio Velez, had a find at 26 and a dead bird find at 45. Nice race, and finished the hour. Touch's Jimi Thing, a pointer male owned and handled by Chris Perkins, suffered a breach of manners at 26.

Brace 2: Mauck's Wyeast Owyhee Dallee, a setter female owned and handled by Alex Mauck, had one find. Battle Born Bette's run is described under "The Champions's Race."

Brace 3: Mauck's Wyeast Owyhee Ajay, a setter female owned and handled by Alex Mauck, had a short race and was birdless. Dunfur's Big Timber, a German Shorthair male owned by Mark and Lynn Lund and handled by Dan Hoke, had a nice race but went birdless.

Brace 4: BK Locked N' Loaded, a pointer female owned and handled by Sergio Velez, was paired with Perkins Diamond Cutter, a pointer male owned and handled by Chris Perkins. Both dogs had a breach of manners at 40.

Brace 5: Handler called for tracker at 25 for Love Train, a pointer female owned and handled by Thomas Griffin. Long Hollow's Buckskin Denny, a pointer male owned by Ryan Fortier and handled by Sergio Velez, had one find and two nonproductive. He had a slow start but finished strong.

Brace 6: Mauck's Wyeast Molly, a setter female owned and handled by Alex Mauck, ran a short race with no birds. Dunfur's Karnube Kidd, a German Shorthair male owned and handled by Dan Hoke, had two finds and a nice race.

Brace 7: Idawire Tumalo Fritz, a German Wirehaired male owned by John and Sandy Williams and handled by Tim Schillereff, was paired with Gene's Dean Martini, a setter male owned and handled by Felton Jerkins. Both dogs had a breach of manners.

Brace 8: B K Pablo Escobar, a pointer male owned and handled by Sergio Velez, was paired with Dunfur's Wings of An Angel, a German Shorthair female owned by David Fowler and handled by Dan Hoke. Pablo had a find with Angel backing.

Brace 9: Hirollins B K Bulletproof's race is described under "The Runner-up Champion's Race." Up N'Adam's Gaining Elevation, a German Shorthair male owned and handled by Josh and Allison Miller and handled by Dan Hoke, started strong but was lost, and handler pulled the tracker.

Brace 10: Elhew Charming Primrose, a pointer female owned by Mel Leuck and Mel Pfeifle and handled by Tim Schillereff, was lost from the start, and handler pulled the tracker. Dunfur's No Question, a German Shorthair female owned by Steve Shorts and handled by Dan Hoke, had a breach of manners, and handler picked up.

Brace 11: Radbach's Rowdy Ty, a German Shorthair male owned by Andy Hofer and handled by Tyler Schillereff, was paired with Lindley's Maverick, a pointer male owned and handled by Thomas Griffin. Both dogs did a nice job but were not moving and were asked to be picked up.

Brace 12: Tumalo Jones, a German Wirehaired male owned by John and Sandy Williams and handled by Tim Schillereff, was paired with DBB'S Skin That Smoke Wagon, a Vizsla male owned by Bryan Adams and handled by Dan Hoke. Both dogs did a nice job but were not moving and were asked to be picked up.

Another great championship series is in the books. We had great support for handlers across the Pacific Northwest. Thank you all for coming. Thank you to Greg Blair, Purina, Jim Morehouse, and SportDOG--two great sponsors. This event could not be put on without all our club members' support and help. We are a small group but seem to get it done every year.
