The Tallapoosa Field Trial Club held its annual fall trial on October 18-19. The trial was held at the JL Lester WMA in Cedartown, Georgia. We were fortunate that the weather broke from the heat for the weekend, and we had lows in the mid-30s and highs in the mid-60s, which was a welcome break from highs in the 80s, which had been the norm. The conditions were extremely dry, and the cover was thick at this time of year, which caused birds to be at a premium. We would like to extend much gratitude to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and Game and Fish Division for their continued work to improve the field trial grounds at JL Lester WMA.
We have many people to thank for contributing to such a successful trial. The "Elite" sponsor of the SBHA is Eukanuba, and we can't share enough about the incredible support provided to the SBHA and the field trial sport. Eukanuba continues to look for new ways to help the SBHA organization support each of the clubs that put on field trials, knowing that without these wonderful clubs, the sport could not exist. Eukanuba is not only a valuable sponsor, but they also provide dog enthusiasts with the best pet food available. It's amazing at the level of research and development that goes into their products. We would also like to thank our other sponsors who play a key role in the continuation of field trials--James O'Neal Dodge, SportDOG, The Saddle Guy, and Gundog Central. These sponsors step up each year with dedicated support that benefits everyone participating in the sport of field trialing, and they should be recognized and respected by everyone.
We had wonderful meals supplied by the Tallapoosa Field Trial Club and prepared by Good Neighbor Meals. Good Neighbor provides the most incredible meals available, and if you are ever in the West Georgia area, give them an opportunity to make a believer out of you.
We had a number of people to thank for stepping into the judicial saddles during this event, and we want to extend a huge "thank you" to each of the following: John Neely, Brad Macke, David Lovern, Tom Hennes, and Lewis Peterson. Each of these gentlemen gave their attention to each participant, and their decisions were well received.
The Club also wants to say a special "thank you" to Lavon King for spending hours on a tractor manicuring the grounds to make the courses perfect. We need to thank Danny Robinson for his role in planting birds, along with Teresa Justice and Shana Gibbs for helping wherever there was a need.
This trial marked the 65th year of the Tallapoosa Field Trial Club, and we are thankful to all who continue to help us put on great field trials.
