Oklahoma Open All-Age Championship 2024

Oklahoma Open All-Age Championship: Allen Vincent, Austin Bryant with Champion Barshoe Forget Me Not, Dr. Stan Wint (judge), Brody Byrd with Runner-Up Champion Rock Acre Yellow Hawk, Ken Chenoweth (judge), and Barry Moore.

The Ingersoll Ranch is the home of the Inola Open All-Age and the Oklahoma Championship. There is a lot of history here with these two trials as well as the Quail Futurity when it was running with these trials. I can remember when there were over 100 entries in the Quail Futurity. Well, with everything, nothing stays the same, and that goes for field trials. Entries have declined over the years for numerous reasons, and the Midwest is no exception. But on a positive note, there is a resurgence of walking trials across the country, and the people who support walking trials move up and support horseback trials a lot of times. Hopefully, this trend will continue.

This year, Barry Moore chaired this trial and did so with precision. He made sure we had good lunches and a wonderful dinner on Tuesday night. A big thank you goes out to Steven Burris for bringing the lunches and cooking ribeye steaks on Tuesday night which was enjoyed by all.

Also, a big thank you to Mike Griffin for marshaling one morning until he had an accident with his horse. As Mike put it, he was seeing three heads of the horse instead of one. Also, thanks to Bob Barker for planting birds each morning. Many thanks are also extended to Kay Ingersoll, Joleta Ingersoll, and Windy Keener for the use of their cattle ranch. We had the pleasure of their attendance at our cookout on Tuesday night. Getting good judges seems to be a great challenge these days, and Barry Moore secured them. Stan Wint got his start in the NBHA, like your scribe. He had a lot of success in that arena with a lot of dogs, most notably Ch. Honky Tonk Attitude. In the last few years, he has judged the National Championship and recently secured the job that Rick Carlisle had with the National Championship. Ken Chenoweth is no stranger to the field trial game. Ken has had a lot of success in the German Shorthair world. I have judged with him and respect his eye for a good dog.

Weather is always a big factor at any trial, and this trial faced record drought, wind, and abnormally high temps, which was hard on dogs, horses, and handlers.
Something unusual happened at this trial: Barshoe Forget Me Not won both the Inola Open All-Age and the Oklahoma Championship. The dog is owned by Bob Gum of Tuttle, Oklahoma, and handled by Allen Vincent.

Barshoe Forget Me Not ran in the first brace on Monday morning. He had a wild covey find at 15 with all in order. Then, at 25, had another find before you get to the first creek crossing. He went on to have a good race.

Second went to Westfall's Wheels Up, owned by Ryan and Bill Westall and handled by Andy Daughtery. He had a find at 14 with all in order, a non-productive at 26, and then went on to have a good race.

Third went to World Class Instigator owned by Mick Marietta and handled by Matt Cockran. He had a good race with a stop-to-flush and a back. All the placed dogs ran in the morning. Most of the afternoon dogs were picked up from hot weather with extreme wind.
