The Centex Bird Dog Club held a very successful trial at the Rolling Plains Quail Research Ranch the weekend of November 16-17. Thanks so much to Dr. Ryan O'Shaughnessy, the ranch's Executive Director, and the RPQRR Board of Directors, for allowing us the use of this amazing venue. It's been a long time since we've been able to run a trial on wild birds, and there were no complaints about the bird population this fall. It was exciting to see the coveys lift while dogs stood tall and proud. Chris Cornman, the trial chairman, did an outstanding job organizing the event. Chris kept everything running smoothly with the assistance of his wife, Terry, and daughter, Amber handling the dog wagon duties. They were where they needed to be throughout the entire trial.

And, of course, many thanks to our two judges, Tyson Traw and Joe Wurster. Both men are from Wichita Falls, Texas, and have many years of experience hunting behind fine bird dogs. They were attentive throughout the trial, and their placements were well received.
In the Amateur Shooting Dog stake, Buck Neil's "Bud" took first place with a stop to flush and two nice finds. Chris Cornman's "Ben" placed second with two broke finds. Chris's "Small" took third with one nice find.

In the Amateur Shooting Dog Derby, Buck Neil's "Patch" placed first. Chip, owned and handled by Mary Ann Gustafson, took second. Buck and "Jack" placed third.

We're looking forward to returning to the Ranch the first weekend in January for the Region 7 Amateur Shooting Dog Championship. Please check our Region 7 Facebook page and the UKC website for further details.
