Waverly Coleman Amateur Shooting Dog (standing, l-r): David Coleman and Craig Stariha. (Kneeling): Lee Flanders with Chippokes Cracker Jack, Verlene Stephenson with Ringo's Sweet Heart, and Steve Graham with Back Creek Lucy.

The Hanover Field Trial Association's fall U.S. Complete trial was held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at the Cohoke Shooting Preserve. The Association would like to thank the Gottwald family for allowing the trial to be held on their private shooting preserve.
Dennis Bosewell had the facilities in good condition for the field trial. The Club is fortunate to have the use of these pristine grounds for field trials. It was a beautiful sunny day with temperatures in the 60s. It was a good day to run dogs.

We would like to thank Nestl Purina for being the national sponsor of the U.S. Complete weekend and championship trials. Purina is providing discount coupons for their dog food to all dogs who have earned placements in the various stakes.

Several club members pitched in to make this field trial a success. George Ramkey and Kirk Regensburg planted birds. Retta Ramkey typed the program. Art Mourino provided the Kawasaki Mule, which he and Ryan Allred used to transport the dogs and handlers to the starting line. Pat Brooks provided the gallery wagon. Meredith Jones drove the truck that pulled the gallery wagon. Charlotte Regensburg and Judy Jones provided lunch. The Hanover Club is fortunate to have many members and wives who help make this trial a success. We appreciate everyone's help in making our trial a success.

There were five dogs in the Puppy stake. Sixteen dogs were entered in the Shooting Dog stake. Judging the Puppy stake were George Ramkey and Craig Stariha. Arnold Ripley and Craig Stariha judged the Shooting Dog stake.

Pat, a Pointer male, took first in the Puppy stake. Owned and handled by Bobby Phillips, Pat had a strong forward-reaching race from beginning to end. He hunted objectives purposefully, especially down near the river. Very impressive with casts to specific objectives. Pat is very attractive with a snappy way of going. Second was Roxy, a Setter female. Handled by Steve Graham, she had a moderate race with some nice casts. She hunted more closely during the middle of the race. Roxy was a little inconsistent but had a happy tail with a pleasing way of going. Third place was Coco, a Pointer female handled by Bobby Phillips. She had a moderate race--a bit more inconsistent ground race than the top two dogs but had a happy way of going.
Jack, a Setter male, took first in the Shooting Dog stake. Jack is owned and handled by Lee Flanders. He had a strong, consistent, forward ground race. Jack had a very strong finish, which separated him from the second and third-place dogs. He had three well-handled finds and finished on his birdwork. Jack was very attractive on the ground and enjoyed doing his work.

Heart, a Pointer female, was second. Handled by Verlene Stephenson, she had a strong ground race and handled very well. She shortened up near the end of her race, which separated her from the top dog. Four well-handled finds and one stop-to-flush were handled perfectly. This dog is finished on birds. Heart has an easy way of going. She came from behind a couple of times but was a joy to watch on the ground.

Third was Lucy, a Setter female handled by Steve Graham. Lucy had a moderate ground race that shortened as the brace progressed. She was perfect on her birds and handled them flawlessly. She had three impeccable finds and one stop-to-flush. Lucy is very attractive on the ground with a snappy, happy way of going.
Jack, owned by Lee Flanders, was named Dog of the Day, winning the Waverly Coleman Shooting Dog trophy.

The Club would like to thank all the participants and guests for coming. The Association looks forward to its next U.S. Complete trial scheduled for spring 2025.
