Manitoba All-Age Classic (l-r): Lance Schulz (judge), Dave Noell, Sergio Velez with BK Unforgiven, Derrick Olsen (judge), Chris Perkins with Touch's Jimi Thing, Ed Mayhew, Jim Ledington with BK Locked N' Loaded, Alex Mauck, Brad McCardle, Robbie Thompson, and Shannon Olsen.

The Eastern Idaho Bird Dog Club hosted the 2024 American Falls Field Trial Series from September 17-24. Four different stakes were run: the Manitoba All-Age Classic, the Idaho Open Derby Classic, the Region 9 Amateur Shooting Dog Championship, and the Idaho Open Shooting Dog Championship. All stakes were run on the six continuous courses dependent on the wild game bird population of CRP habitat and the challenging Southeast hills outside of American Falls, Idaho. Birds were in abundance, with the common species of Sharp-tail Grouse, Hungarian Partridge, and Ring-Necked Pheasant present throughout the event, which provided the opportunity for game contact for the contesting dogs on all courses. The weather proved challenging throughout the series, starting off with harsh rains on the first day and ending the series with stifling temperatures. We would like to sincerely thank our landowners, our sponsors, Purina and SportDOG, judges, and all who helped make this special event possible for another year.

Manitoba All-Age Classic
Judged by Lance Schulz of North Dakota and Derrick Olsen of Oregon
The first stake was the Manitoba All-Age Classic, hosted for the first time in American Falls, Idaho. It started on the cloudy morning of Tuesday, September 17.
In first place was BK Locked N' Loaded, pointer female, owned and handled by Sergio Velez, scouted by Jim Ledington.
Locked N' Loaded drew the second course in the morning, which casts off from the Quonset hut. Right out of the gate, she took off strong to the front and disappeared from sight. She was a while later at the first bend at the trees. From there, she proceeded along the ridge and went out of sight again. She later appeared along the upper bench and was sent down the long valley. She could be seen at the end of the valley towards the gap, way in the distance. Handler sent her through the gap, gathered her, and sent her down the final valley up onto the last hill. Locked N' Loaded was found pointed at time and rewarded with a couple of sharptail, flushed by her handler for a strong performance.
In second place was Touch's Jimi Thing, pointer male, owned and handled by Chris Perkins and scouted by Gordy Jones.
Touch's Jimi Thing drew the second course in the morning. Jimi started off strong to the front up the hill and then out of sight. Right over the hill, Jimi was seen pointed near the first bend at the trees at :05. The handler flushed a single sharptail, and Jimi stood rigid throughout. Jimi was then sent along the ridge and was found standing around the second tree group. The handler announced birds left and fired without flushing and took Jimi on. On the upper bend of the course, Jimi went on point, but no birds could be produced. Jimi was sent on and took the lower valley like a bullet to the end, far in the distance, and went through the gap. Jimi took the final valley and up the final hill until time was called.
In third place was BK Unforgiven, pointer male, owned by Sam Handous, handled by Sergio Velez, and scouted by Jim Ledington.
Unforgiven drew the second course of the morning. Right off the breakaway, Unforgiven ran a really strong race. He was seen on the first ridge, reaching far to the front. He was collected on the bend and sent down the valley with ease towards the gap. He was sent up the gap and was seen pointed off on the right. As riders approached, birds were seen flushing. Then Unforgiven was sent down the final valley and up the hill for a strong finish.

The champion was Costas, a pointer male, owned and handled by Gordy Jones and scouted by Mike Robbins.
Costas drew the first course in the morning. Costas took off from the breakaway, caught the first ridge up the hill, and took it right up to the top. As riders approached the top, he was found pointed on the flat at :09, and sharptail grouse were produced by the handler. Then, at the beginning of the descent towards the road, Costas slammed point again at :13, and a covey of Huns was produced. Costas proceeded down the ridge towards the road and disappeared into some tall grass. Birds were seen leaving the area, and as riders rode closer to the area, Costas was found standing. He was taken on across the road and was seen taking the hills to the front. He was taken by the handler around the sharp bend and sent into the final field, where he slammed point again with seconds remaining. Handler flushed a group of sharptails to reward a strong performance.
Named runner-up champion was Mauck's Wyeast Owyhee Ajay, setter female, owned and handled by Alex Mauck and scouted by Bill Owen.
Ajay drew the first course in the morning. Ajay took off up the first ridge, climbed to the top, took off towards the bend and disappeared out of sight. Ajay was found pointed at :15 off the left side of the ridge descending towards the road by the scout. The handler flushed a large covey of Huns for a successful find. Ajay was then sent down, crossed the road, and disappeared into the valley up front. Ajay was then found pointed again at :38 by scout off a knob on the left, and the handler again flushed another covey of Huns. Ajay proceeded into the valley and went on point at :44, but no birds could be produced. Ajay was taken on and handled gracefully to the front for the remainder of the brace, finishing on point. Handler elected not to flush, and Ajay was collared to conclude the end of the brace.

Named champion was Perkins Diamond Cutter, pointer male, owned and handled by Chris Perkins.
Diamond Cutter drew the first course of the morning. Bud darted up the left ridge instead of the common right and was seen taking the left ridge far to the front and swung up the hill on top. He proceeded far down the ridge out of sight towards the road. At :18, Bud was found pointed to the front, and the handler flushed a pair of Sharptail grouse off the ridge in front of Bud. He was then taken on and proceeded down the ridge, crossed the road on his own, and disappeared to the front in the valley across the road. A few minutes later, he appeared to the front and proceeded over the rolling hills ahead. At :42, Bud came off the ridge near the saddle and had a stop to flush on Huns that were seen flushing ahead. He was taken on and handled superbly to the front for a strong finish.
The runner-up champion was S T's Locked N Loaded, vizsla female, owned by J. A. and Jeff Zenas, handled by Brian Gingrich, and scouted by Robbie Thompson.
Remi drew the first course of the morning. Right after the breakaway, she took the ridge to the right and worked her way up to the top. As riders came over the top and bent down towards the road, she was seen to the left in the valley on point at :14. Huns were produced by the handler, and Remi stood poised throughout. The handler sent her on down the hill and she moved into the next field. She handled with ease, staying to the front for the duration of the course. Remi made an excellent finish at time, as she was seen going forward through the stubble field.
