Location: Lake Ariel, Pennsylvania

On April 10, bird dog enthusiasts gathered at the beautiful Murphy Farm in Lake Ariel, Pa., for the Mountain View Bird Dog Club's spring trial.

Farm owner Grace Murphy was on hand to enjoy the blue skies and bird dogs as well as was her uncle, Neil Murphy.

First to the starting line were the Amateur puppies. Tom Davis and Dave Prince were tasked with judging the field of eight starters. Taking blue was Super Storm Atlantic (Kain) with a big, powerful, forward race. Second went to Huckelberry's Ring of Fire (Avillion) which also put down a strong forward race. Rounding out the placements was G J F Jax (Fried) with a solid effort.

The Derby drew a field of five starters. Although not big in number of entries the competition was stiff. Dave Prince once again judged and Mike Oxenrider joined him in these duties. Bruno's Piney Run Pearl handled by Marty Festa took the blue with a nice ground effort and quality find, handled with mature manners. G J F Sparq locked down second place with a fancy ground race.

The Shooting Dog Stake drew a competitive field of sixteen starters looked over by Bob Kays and Jeremy Estep. No Limit, handled by this reporter, took first place with a fancy, strong, forward ground race and six finds handled with impeccable manners. Huckelberry's Lucky Penny took the red ribbon while making a strong bid for the blue ribbon with her four expertly handled finds and strong race. Jerry On Fire, Strapping pointer male, took the yellow for his determined application and pretty style on point during his four mannerly finds.

On behalf of the Mountain View Bird Dog Cub, I would like to thank the following: Greg Blair and Purina for their generous sponsorship of this trial; George Nichols for planting birds; Neil Murphy for handling road guard duties and Grace Murphy for allowing us to use her farm.

Hope to see everyone this fall for our next trial.
