The MDGSPC 2020 Spring Horseback Field trial was held on May 7-9 at the York Pointer and Setter Club in Rossville, Pa.
The weather was all over the place at this event. We had sun, rain and one participant called and said he ran into a blizzard going home near State College, was in snow and traffic for an hour and a half. But we put another event in the books.
We took 95 dogs in the event. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. We had dinner in the clubhouse on Saturday night. Jim Winnen bought walleye with him and we had a great meal of fried fish, French fries, salad, cole slaw and desserts. Many thanks to all who supported the kitchen. This helps with the expenses of the trial.
Special thank you to the following people for the work they performed at the event (hopefully I did not miss anyone).
Don Eck and Steve Boyer took care of bird planting. Fantastic job. Thank you Steve for the use of your ATV. Gunners John Naughton, Al Lucas, Dick Cullerton and Don Eck.
Dick Cullerton handled the line marshal duty. Stephanie Snyder, Kathy Kurtz and Pat Hudson for the snack-dessert donations. Muffy Cullerton for her help in the kitchen and Sherry for my beautiful planter.
We can never thank the judges enough for the long hours in the saddle -- Will Kitts, Lance Fargo, Stephanie Snyder, Jon Sensinger, Robert Spillman, Pat Hudson and Ken Huyser.
Thank you to David for bringing the horses for us on Saturday and Sunday. Always had the horses ready for the judges, handlers and gallery so we had no delays.
Congratulations to the winners of the Revolving Trophies:
The Happy Ridge Victreedee Memorial Trophy is awarded to the winner of the Open Restricted Shooting Dog Stake, donated by Mike Allen, presented to Ridgewood Pikey Buzzy Kahlua, "Nikky," German Shorthair female, owned and handled by Mike Mullineaux.
The Ozzie Raith Memorial Trophy is awarded to the winner of the Amateur Shooting Dog Stake, donated by Jim Yeager, and presented to Up N'Adam's Iron Maiden, "Maddy," German Shorthair female, owned by Katrin H. Tazza and Thomas Tazza, handled by Katie Tazza.
The Lou Foehrkolb Memorial Trophy is awarded to the winner of the Open Derby, donated by Jamie O'Donnell for the Spring Horseback trial, and presented to Up N' Adams Emily Sue, owned by Katrin and Thomas Tazza, handled by Barry Bollinger.
Thank you to all who entered the event and supported us again and all the new people. Thank you for having all the dogs on the line and ready to keep the trial running smoothly.
Congratulations to all the winners: See you in the fall.
