MAYFLOWER, ARK. -- Cold days greeted everyone as the Prairie and Pelican qualifying trials began at Camp Robinson near Mayfower, Ark.

Dr. Fred Corder and lovely wife Rita were on hand to make sure all was on track.

Claiming top honors in the Prairie was Whippoorwill Justified, owned by Ronnie Spears and handled by Larry Huffman. "Patch's" race was far and deep. He had a good find in the horseshoe, his manners what one would expect of a champion.

Second was an Allen Vincent entry in the form of Justifier, owned by Dr. Robert Rankin. Justifier pushed it for top spot. Third was Wind Ridge Sugar Plum, the pride of Tennessean Dr. Eugene Spiotta and piloted by veteran Eddy Taylor.

In the Prairie Derby, Game Rebel was in the No. 1 spot. He's owned and handled by Dr. Corder. Second was Sadie Firefly, handled by Allen Vincent for the Searcy, Ark., team of Dr. Jim Mills, Steve Lightle and Dr. Natalie Cooper. Third was Game Heir, another young one for Dr. Corder.

John VanHorn teamed with Gordon Hazlewood to call the winners. Ronnie Miller joined VanHorn for the Derby.

The Pelican Classic followed. Jim Martin and Daniel Bolden made the call for the All-Age.

Ascension claimed first, handled by Steve Hurdle and owned by Ted Roach. The pointer male was powerful bird work crisp. Miss Stylin Sue was No. 2, Allen Vincent handling for the Searcy boys, owners Dr. Mills and Steve Lightle. Third was Ransom's Jack Flash. He's owned by Rachel Blackwell, pops Billy Blackwell and friend Doug Arthur. Steve Hurdle had the pleasure.

The Derby followed. Virgil Moore joined Bolden to call them.

Miller's L'eletto, owned by Karen Concilio handled by Randy Anderson, claimed the top spot. The future is a good one. Game Rebel scored for Dr. Fred Corder and third was Sadie Firefly. Allen Vincent showed her for owners Dr. Jim Mills, Steve Lightle and Dr. Natalie Cooper.

Overall the quality was outstanding. The all-age game is in good hands. Camp Robinson challenged them and the birds were tops!

Thanks to all who came. 'Til next time.
