The Spruce Brook spring trial was held May 28-31 at the John Flaherty field trial grounds, East Windsor, Conn.

With the cooler than normal spring the cover was lower making for good viewing of the dogs ground race. We would like to thank the State of Connecticut for doing an excellent job of maintaining this venue.

At this time I would like to thank our judges, Brian Sanchez and John Stolgitis for judging the Open All-Age and Open Restricted Shooting Dog, Dave O'Brien and John Malone for the Open Derby, Rich Giuliano and Tom Tracy for the Open Shooting Dog, Matt Basilone and Mike Tracy for judging the Amateur Shooting Dog one-hour stake. A special thank you to all. The placements were well received.

The trial was chaired by Alene LeVasseur, with help from Kacey and Evie LeVasseur, Gene Casale, Jr., Suzanne, John, and Aiden Malone, Dave O'Brien, Brian Sanchez and John Stolgitis. The club provided lunches and dinners for everyone.

THE WINNERS

The Open All-Age started things off on Friday under favorable skies. Mike Tracy handled the two winners. First was Just Win Chester, pointer male owned by Charles Brunner. Second place was Bronco Bully, also a pointer male, owned by the Primms (Bill and Muriel) and Sanigas (Ernie and Karen).

Second place dog, very close to the winner, was Fort River's Lucky Charm, owned by Gary Tavares handled by Matt Basilone with a strong forward race, two finds and a back with impeccable style. Third was Steel Valley Freedom. The pointer male had a forward race and two finds.

The one-hour Amateur Shooting Dog Stake with 21 entries started Sunday morning in the rain. The rain continued all day long; all but two braces were run on Sunday.

The winner, Reedy Creek Dial Tone won with four finds and a wide searching race. Second was Calico's Over the Top with a pleasing race and bird work. Earning third was was Joe Lordi with Bittersweet War Cry with a forward race and two finds.
