The annual running of the Kelly's Rebel Maggie Shooting Dog Classic and companion stakes, hosted by the Nevada Bird Dog Club, was run on December 4, 2021 at the Red Rock field trial grounds in Reno, Nev.
The December scheduling was a shift from the normal late October timeframe due to unseasonably warm weather in October, and was well received by attendees. First and foremost, we would like to thank PURINA for supporting our trial and providing dog food to the winners. Their generosity towards field trialing in general and our club make hosting trials like this possible. Like all field trials this trial was the result of many individuals contributing their time and efforts to make it a success and we thank Lori Steinshouer for me opening her home and serving dinner for the drawing and lunch on Saturday, Gail Small for the banquet dinner on Saturday night, and Jarry Walton for his all around help.
Our biggest thanks go to Brad Laverne for driving 9 hours to secure the birds, helping with everything, and driving the dog truck throughout the trial. This trial wouldn't have happened without you buddy, and you have our sincerest gratitude. The KRM Classic drew and started a respectable entry of 16 dogs from around the West with many fine performances displayed and plenty of bird work by most entries. The first-place winner was Skydancer Gold Rush, setter male, owned and handled by Tom Griffin with a forward race and easy handle. Second place was awarded to Indian Head Whiski, pointer male, owned and handled by Jared Tappero. Third place went to Dexzasterous Night Stalker, German Shorthair male, owned and handled by Robbie Thompson.
The AFTCA Region 11 Amateur All-Age derby drew a limited entry of only 4 dogs, with 1st place going to Jared Tappero's fine young dog IH Pearl's Blindsider, and 2nd going to Marc Cuneo's dog Copper Jim's Little Bud with a nice forward ground application. The Open Derby drew 6 dogs, with the winners appended.
