For the first time since 2019, the Southwestern Championship and Derby are being held, as always, on the Johnson Ranch in Trail City, South Dakota. This is the only All-Age Prairie Championship this year.
The Derby kicked off August 31 with a field of 16. The consensus was that the official kickoff to this year's Derby season was a strong showing.
Taking first was CKC Gun Runner, pointer male, handled by Judd Carlton and owned by Kent Cantrell of Ocala, Fla. Second Place went to Comanche, pointer male, handed by Luke Eisenhart and owned by Tucker Johnson of Hope Sound, Fla. Steens Hurricane Murphy, pointer male, handled by Jamie Daniels, and owned by Ann Tyson of Washington, Jim Hamilton and Nick Berrong, both from Tennessee, took third in the stake.
The Championship, made up of 33 dogs, immediately follows.
The judges are Jason Williams and Shaun Kinkelaar. Claudia McNamee is serving as the reporter. A full report will be published at a later date.
