Inola Open All-Age Winners (l-r): Tim Hidalgo (judge), Allen Vincent with Texas Wild Rex, Andy Daugherty with Westfall's Pioneer Pete, Matt Cochran with Wynona's Nickleback Sugar, and Adrian Jackson (judge).

The Inola Open started on Saturday morning, October 21, 2023. We had a short draw this year but had a quality draw. It was very dry with lots of cover. We put birds out every morning, but scenting conditions were very bad. Hot, dry conditions prevailed, but we had some very good dog races and a couple of dogs on birds.
First place in the Open All-Age went to Texas Wild Rex (Vincent), who ran a very big race, a true all-age race. He searched all the good hunting spots and had a great performance on the ground but couldn't come up with a bird.
Second place went to Westfall's Pioneer Pete (Daugherty). Pete ran in the same brace as the winner, putting on a great show--another true all-age performance. The judges had to talk about this one, as it was a great brace.
Third place went to Wynona's Nickleback Sugar (Vincent), who ran a consistent race, forward hunting in all the good spots and handling well. She responded well to the handler and was rewarded with three finds on liberated birds, looking very good with great manners.

We had eight nice derbies who all tried very hard. First place was Shaws Money Mabel (Cochran). She ran early and put on a nice show. She was fast and snappy, responded well to the handler, used the ground well, hunted hard, and went to all the spots likely to hold birds.
Second place went to Wynona's All Business (Vincent), who also ran a big searching race, using all the available scouts and cover in his search for birds. With a nice stride, he goes through the country well and uses the cover good. It looks like he has a bright future.
Third place went to Wynona's Rebel (Vincent), who also did a great job using the country in his search for birds. He did a good job covering all the spots in an all-age fashion. He, too, seems to have a bright future.

Oklahoma Open Championship Winners (standing, l-r): Sherri Michaletz, Jim Michaletz (judge), Marie Daugherty, Andy Daugherty, and Harold Burbank (judge). (Kneeling): Matt Cochran with Westfall's Wheels Up, and Allen Vincent with Mayfield Storm Charger.

Oklahoma Open Championship
The Oklahoma Open Championship followed, still hot, dry, and windy. Birds were hard to come by; they were out there, but scenting conditions were terrible. We crowned the champion and runner-up on wild birds, which was nice to see.
The winner, Westfall's Wheels Up (Daugherty), ran a nice forward race in true all-age fashion and was found on point on a throw-down bird. He went on to hunt all the cover and was found buried in a thicket on point, on wild birds. His finish was strong to the front.
Mayfield Storm Charger (Vincent) ran a nice all-age race on course 1 and was rewarded with a nice wild covey. He always stayed to the front with a wide ground searching pace of a good all-age dog. He had a good rapport with the handler and made a nice all-age effort.
