Result: NBHA Northern Regional Championship

Location: Baraboo, Wisconsin

Post Date: Apr 1, 2021

Submitted By: Greg Blair

The 2021 NBHA Northern Regional Championship was run April 1 at the Yellowstone Wildlife Management Area, near Argyle, Wis.

In foreground, Runner-Up Champion Top Fuel's Holy Hustler with Courtney Campeau and Brian Lick. Back row (l to r): Megan Baker, Andrea Ward, Julie Asmus, Mike Baker, Judges Kim and Sam Thompson; Ken Milikin and Matt Miller

The grounds are very rolling with plenty of acreage to allow a dog to stretch their legs, yet be willing to stay with you. The 12 O'clock FTC always hosts a very welcoming, warm event and this year was no different. Many new handlers joined the members and pro entries. The field consisted of numerous champions and AKC field champions as well. Thank you to each and every owner and handler who joined this Championship.

The running proved to be tough due to dry scenting conditions brought on by an easterly-southeasterly wind. Multiple dogs finished the hour but the champion and runner-up champion came from the first morning. That morning by far offered the best scenting conditions.

THE WINNERS

Judges Kim and Sam Thompson dilligently kept their full attention on the entire entry, and Alliwood's Shady Shay, white and black pointer female coming five (April 14), owned and handled by Adam Delude of Campbellsport, Wis., was named champion. Shay ran in the first brace Friday morning. She carded three well spaced finds and a fourth on a fresh hawk kill. Shay handled very well for Adam, making a few nice moves but always staying in touch with the handler. Her ground application was a fine example of an NBHA Champion.

Runner-up laurels went to Top Fuel's Holy Hustler, three-year-old liver female German shorthaired pointer. Trudee is owned by Courtney Campeau and was handled by Brian Lick. Courtney and Brian are from the Minneapolis, Minn., area, more specifically New Richmond, Wis. Brian and Trudee were in the second brace of the trial and laid down a more far reaching ground application, but only carded one find and one unproductive. Trudee was snappy and more of an edge running dog than the champion. She is an exciting dog to run.

Judges for the accompanying Derby were Derby and John Dlobik who awarded placements to three very successful young up-and-comers.

Brooks White Hot Blaze, Red Setter male, owned by Luke Tewes of Benet, Neb., and handled by Tom Waite, is no stranger to the podium. He has placed in both open and amateur stakes this year and will have a bright future ahead of him;. Here he had a far- reaching run with one bird contact.

Dale Creek Movin Maeve, a one-year-old pointer female, owned by Andrea Ward of Burlington, Wis., and handled by Tom Waite, gave the field a run for their money. Her smooth gait and ability to hit the right spots earned her a second place finish. Rounding out the placements was Blair's Calvary Mountain, pointer male, owned and handled by Greg Blair of Menomonee Falls, Wis. "Bob" ran a wider race and finished well to the front on a hot and dry afternoon.

Derby Winners

The 12 O'clock FTC would like to thank our national sponsors, Purina, Garmin, Mule Clothing, Gun Dog Supply and Gun Dog Central. We also would like to thank our dedicated dog wagon driver Ken Millikin, and bird planter John Dlobik for their time and hard work. It is greatly appreciated!
