November 25 is a little later in the fall than the Mid-South Bird Hunters Club usually runs its fall trial, but we had a beautiful sunny day to compete on. We were back at our grounds on the Ted Ellis family farm and want to thank Ted and Bill Ellis for having the grounds available and in great shape for us once again. There were 38 dogs entered throughout the four stakes, but with plenty of help, we were able to take advantage of both our north and south course. Thank you to our judges Frank Christie, Declan Wheat, Brad Hire, Danny Davis, Travis Patterson, and Kenny DeLong, without their help, we would not have been able to run all the entries we had. This was Declan Wheat's first time judging along with his grandfather, Frank Christie; Declan said he enjoyed it and will help anytime, something this sport always needs. Lunch was provided by my lovely wife, Sherry Hargis, who also helped move dogs around. Dan Crunk was on hand as always but was limited to staying at camp. But made sure the next brace was on the line and ready to go to keep things moving.

The Amateur Shooting Dog saw 14 entries, with Foxy Lady Sadie taking first place with a nice four-find front-going race. Sadie is a red setter female owned and handled by Mike Fox. German shorthair female, No Limits Little Slick, took second with a nice race and three finds. She was handled by her owner, John Landolina. Cutter's Ignited Hustler, a female German shorthair, gave her owner/handler Billy Creason his first-ever NBHA placement, taking third place with two nice finds.
PB Texas Tornado won the Derby for her owner, Brian Stockrahm. "Mattie" is a big running, stylish pointer female. Warner's Utah Jack, an English setter, was second for Rob "Rock n Roll" Warner, and third was English setter Woodsway's Stingin' Rain, handled by Erin Pearson. These two setters are very classy running dogs and have bright futures in the sport. The winning derbies all had nice bird work.

According to Gun Dog judges Danny Davis and Brad Hire, the Gun Dog stake was loaded, and they had to make some tough choices. Billy Creason ended his day with another placement with his male German shorthair, Cutter's Ignited Winning Bid, taking first in the Gun Dog stake. Second place went to Sky Hawk's Little Rascal, a setter male owned by Rob "Rock n Roll" Warner. Taking third for first-time handler Myah Landolina was her dog No Limits Little Slick. This young lady was very nervous but, at the same time, completely ready to run her dog. She said she loved every minute of her brace. When not running her dog, she was following along watching and learning.

Don Heisner is back in the winners' circle with his young English setter female Beaucoup Creek Abby, taking first in the Puppy. Don is very proud of this young setter, sired by one of his "boys," Buck. Second place went to PB Copper Strike, a pointer male owned and handled by Brian Stockrahm. Erin's Pancho Villa, a pointer male owned by Chuck Leonard and handled by Travis Patterson, took third place honors. Three nice-looking pups here that we should see around for a while.
Dan Crunk, Rick Stanford, and myself (Brad Hargis) want to thank everyone for attending our trial. We know that several of you drove long distances to support our trials, and that is greatly appreciated. We hope to see you in the spring. We also wish to thank Purina, the NBHA, and all their sponsors.
