NGSPA of Ohio Open Shooting Dog Championship (l-r): Terry Boatright (judge), Mary Sue Schalk (judge), Chris Goegan with Haskal Run Ella, Robert Reynolds, Tom James (owner), and Larry Verk.

The 2024 running of the Ohio Championships began on April 22 at the Tri-Valley Wildlife Area near Dresden, Ohio, and concluded on April 26.

The Ohio Division of Wildlife had the clubhouse, kennels, corrals, and field trial grounds in excellent condition. Recent cattle grazing and mowing increased the visibility to a nearly perfect level to watch big-running dogs compete in this venue. Several out-of-state competitors remarked that they felt that Ohio's field trial area offered a great championship trial ground.
Our judges for the Open Shooting Dog were Terry Boatright and Mary Sue Schalk, both from Kentucky. All-Age Championship judges were Mary Sue Schalk and Mark Calder. Brian Riggle and Mark Calder, both from Pennsylvania, judged the Amateur Championship. The first four days were perfect weather for running dogs. The Derby Classic was judged by Fred Ryan and Bob Reynolds, both from Ohio.

Our judges gave all entries their full attention, and many competitors expressed their appreciation for our judiciary.

Our successful trial was made possible by the German Shorthair Pointer Club of Ohio members, who contributed their time and talent to our event. I would especially like to thank our secretary, Jennifer Goodall, as well as Chris Young, Bob Reynolds, Scott and Ann Weslow, Charlie and Laurie Brown, Gayle and Cheryl Graves, and our bird planters, Chris Young, Fred Ryan, Art Terstage, Hank Lewis, and Bob Reynolds. They did a terrific job planting birds and keeping the trial on schedule.

Once again, Purina is to be thanked for their continued support of our field trial events. SportDOG also provided training collars for our amateur champion.
We want to thank the pros who support our trial: Joe Orndorff, Dan DiMambro, Barry Bollinger, Chris Goegan, and all the amateurs who make these trials happen with help and participation.
