The Northern New Jersey Field Trial Club held its spring trial at Indian Creek Shooting Preserve in Hardyston, New Jersey, on May 19.

Pleasant weather greeted the field of canine competitors, but the mid-afternoon heat reminded us that bird dog season would shortly be in the shadows of fast-approaching summer. This field trial brought some of the "cool kids" for an end-of-the-season celebration. In that group were owners Tim and Amy Cauley, who were there to cheer on Indian Creek Tom Boy for a performance that earned her third place in the Open Derby. Prepping for his graduation to the next class, No Doubt About Scout secured second place with a forward run and two well-spaced finds for owner/handler Mike Imparato. Not to be outdone by the Pointers, English setter male Indian Creek Pearl Jam had an impressive run with four finds to close out the season with handler Garry Malzone.

The Open Shooting Dog had several honorable runs. Hurricane Freya took the judges by storm with three finds and a snappy race, taking third for owner/handler Jason Paternostro. Perhaps the most fun run of the day was first-time handler Amanda Chiofalo handling Flash (who she affectionately calls "Piggy") to second place. The gallery cheered them on as she made her field trial debut. Together, they scored three perfect finds, navigated the course as a team, and demonstrated the power to learn can take you into the winners' circle! Rounding out the placements was Pointer female Daisy, with six finds and a strong forward race.
Thank you to our NBHA sponsors: Garmin, Purina, Mule Brand Clothing, Gun Dog Supply, OnX Hunt, and Gun Dog Central. Thank you, as always, to our attentive judges. Congratulations to all. See you in the fall!
