Open Shooting Dog winners joined by field trial participants.

On December 15, 2024, the Northern New Jersey Field Trial Club held its winter field trial in Hardyston, New Jersey. The forecast called for a blustery winter day where running dogs were essential to keeping warm!

The puppies started things off with enthusiasm. The winners were fun-running, classy navigators of the course.

In the Open Derby, Glassilaun Gladiator glided through the terrain, placing second for owner/handler Jamie Nee. Proving he was set out to do more than just squeak by, "Mouse" dominated the fields with stylish birdwork, earning him the top spot for handler Tim Cavanaugh.

The Open Shooting Dog heated things up with all dogs showing their competitive nature. Sliding into third was Savvy for owner/handler Jason Willams with three well-spaced finds. Showing off her field trial spirit, Courageous Cat and her stylish pointing style claimed the second spot for owner Ed Marron. Moving and grooving her way to first place was Sprout with seven finds and a forward race for team Indian Creek.

The Amateur Shooting Dog left us all feeling jolly, with handlers having great showings with their dogs. Indian Creek Perfect Storm stole (many of our hearts) along with third place as this 12-and-a-half-year-old Pointer gave it all he had, scoring four beautiful finds for owner/handler John Bleeker. Hurricane Freya swirled around the competition, working in sync with handler Jason Paternostro with her fun, stylish run and several well-handled finds. The shining star of the stake was Ramblin Rivers Autumn Skye, uncovering birds in places no other dog had, making her performance bird abundant and earning her the top spot for owner/handler Jason Williams. Congratulations to all handlers and owners!

Thank you to our judges for bearing the cold weather and our sponsors, Purina, Garmin, OnX Hunt, Gun Dog Supply, and Mule Gear, for supporting NBHA trials. The day was a fun way to get together and celebrate the holiday season amongst bird dog friends!
