The Shady Grove field trial finally got to run. After one delay from the weather, it was rescheduled only to have snow and bitter cold after drawing on Monday evening. We didn't get to start until Saturday at 1 p.m. It was worth the wait. We moved 15 coveys in three braces. We had a dog with five coveys and a dog with six. However, it was one too many for both dogs. We were so happy to have Johnny and Rita Ornsby attend and judge the Derby. Rita also ran in the Shooting Dog, and Marty Moore helped judge the shooting dogs.

A lot of changes have taken place since last April for the bird program at Camp Robinson SUA. We are a small group, but everyone involved dedicated themselves to helping make the changes we wanted to implement. The new area manager from the AGFC was a great help and did everything he could to help. He and his staff were a breath of fresh air. Our changes included planting food plots, new waterers, mowing, broadcast feeding, new bird suppliers, and other things. We've had birds all year, and every course gave an opportunity to show your dog on birds. Almost everyone who had a trial this year paid for the bi-weekly feeding before their trial. I'm not going to name people and what they did because I know I would leave someone out. If you ran at Camp Robinson this year, you saw what a successful year it was. Many hours of time and money were spent, but I'd say everyone involved would tell you it was worth it. It will be a short break, and then we will see if we can do it again.
