Michigan field trialers kicked off the spring season with a combined Horseback/Walking event at Ionia Recreation Area, which has been the home of the Michigan Shooting Dog Championship since 1977. This event is a testament to the hardcore trialers that we attract year after year. The trial was well-attended, considering the predictable adverse weather conditions that frequently greet us in mid-to-late March. Ionia is primarily a horseback venue, but portions of the three courses are available for year-round training and hunting. Many of our Cover Dog enthusiasts can be seen utilizing these grounds, especially in the early spring when the woodcock are prevalent on their way northward or even nesting in the area.
Many thanks to the judges who stepped up when needed and to Mike Brown for picking up and delivering our birds on short notice.
