The Peninsula Bird Hunters Field Trial Club held its field trial at Dr. Aubrey Morgan's Cutter Whiskey Farm in Ahoskie, North Carolina, on Sunday, March 30. The grounds are the best anywhere around. The weather was very warm for this time of the year. The dogs under consideration had to be in the best condition. A full day was on the books with three Puppy braces, three Open Derby braces, and seven Shooting Dog braces.

Many thanks go out to all who helped. This club is blessed with folks who step up when things need to get done. Special thanks to Arnold Ripley, who brought his side-by-side to keep all the dogs on the line; Steve Graham, who kept the grounds loaded with birds; and J. R. Hasty, Frankie Barnes, and Gary and Ellen Winall. Special thanks to Lee Flanders for another wonderful fried fish lunch, and to the grounds committee with Barbel Fetkoter as the head honcho. Thank you to all the handlers who came and supported the trial. A big thank you to Purina for their continued support.

The Amateur Puppy was judged by the very capable Gary and Ellen Winall. First was Bob's Elhew Pat, a pointer female, handled by Bobby Phillips, who has the class and style to go on and be a winning competitor. A close second was her littermate, pointer female Bob's Elhew Coco, also handled by Bobby Phillips. Third was Back Creek Blue, a setter male owned and handled by Steven Graham. Blue is a strong and classy dog and will be a winner in the future.

The Open Derby and the Amateur Shooting Dog were both judged by Jim Jones and John Outlaw. These two men have been running dogs and field trialing for a very long time. We were very fortunate to have such experience judging this trial.
First in the Open Derby was Bob's Elhew June, a pointer female owned and handled by Bobby Phillips. June showed good manners on her birds and had a nice running style.
Second was Walnut Tree Allie, a pointer female owned and handled by Lee Flanders. She showed good on her birds and on the ground.

Third was Pinekone Taylor Made, a setter male, owned and handled by Ashby Morgan.
The Amateur Shooting Dog was won by Mohawk Mill Big Stuff, a pointer male, owned by Gary Winall and handled by Ashby Morgan. Big Stuff had a powerful ground race, coupled with a back and three finds to win the blue. A close second was Chippokes Cracker Jack, a setter male owned and handled by Lee Flanders. Jack had a forward race and four stylish finds. Third was Mohawk Mill Big Enough, a pointer male owned by Gary Winall and handled by Michael McIntyre. Big Enough had four nice finds and a more moderate ground race.
