Gyp Hills ODS25-

Open Derby (l-r): Doug Meyer (judge), Jay Lewis with High Line Drive, Jenny Lindsey with Jasper In My Crockett, Joe Worsham with Worsham's Samson, and Paul Roederer (judge).

The Gyp Hills Field Trial Club held forth on a beautiful weekend in late February over the beautiful 43,000-acre Z Bar Ranch Southwest of Medicine Lodge, Kansas. The rolling hills and prairie cover held wild Bobwhites and pheasants, encountered by the dogs and those riding. Our thanks go to Greg Blair with Purina Pro Plan, management of the Z Bar Ranch for supporting this renewal and all the support they provide our club throughout the year, and our judges and marshals for looking at their dogs. Thane Yunker from Z Bar again supported us by driving the dog wagon and keeping everything in line.

The All-Age stake was won by Joe Worsham, who piloted Worsham's Spitfire to a reaching prairie race to gather first place. Greypointe Oso took second for Doug Meyer with a hustling race not as far flung as first. The hard luck dog was Greypointe Patron for Meyer, who ran a solid out front all-age race to find and point a covey of Bobwhites where access was fenced off. A delay was required to send the scout through a gate and back to the dog to flush, leading to nervous steps taken after flush.

The Derby was an exciting group with High Line Drive first for Scott Hadley and Jay Lewis, with an excellent forward race seen at a distance. Jennifer Lindsey's first trip to Z Bar was rewarding, with Jasper In My Crockett named second after a hustling race. Worsham's Samson, who is recovering from health issues, was third for Joe Worsham with a good effort.
The Shooting Dog was competitive with High Enchantress, handled by co-owner Matt Griffith, to first, a beautiful, exciting race and handle. Worsham's Spitfire was second and Chisolm Creeks Sweetie Pie third for Mark Wasserman.

The Club thanks all who came to run on strictly wild birds in untamed country. Always a challenge, but if you want to see what kind of dog you have, a great test on the prairie in late winter. We look forward to seeing all of you at our next events this fall.
