We want to thank everyone who took the time and effort to make it up to the Namekagon Barrens for the 2025 running of the Region 19 Amateur All-Age Championship. As always, the native sharptail provided a significant test, though this year presented an even greater challenge. The unusually heavy spring rains, followed by a subsequent drought, resulted in lower numbers, making locating and pointing these elusive game birds exceptionally difficult.
This year's companion Open Derby stake featured a strong entry of 16 talented dogs. It was a very competitive stake, and thankfully, an almost 30-degree drop in temperature from the previous days provided much more favorable running conditions. Our judges this year were the Johnson duo--Mark Johnson from Illinois and Mark Johnson from Wisconsin. Their discerning eyes and dedication to observing each dog's performance are always deeply appreciated. They had a number of quality dogs to choose from this year's contenders. With a strong race, quality find, and bird work at time, the winner was Erin's Banshee, handled by Sean Pat Derrig and owned by Allen Linder. Coming in second place with a commendable performance was Prairewood's Lone Survivor, owned and handled by Todd Manns. Third place with another solid run was Erin's Forged In Fire, owned and handled by Sean Pat Derrig.

In the Region 19 Amateur All-Ag Championship, we had a very strong field of competition with 28 entries. Weather conditions were ideal, ranging from the 20s to the high 50s with a fair amount of sun and light winds. Finding and pointing the wild sharptail within the dense, brushy oak habitat of the Barrens is always a challenge, but the birds become increasingly pressure-weary and wily as the season progresses, adding another layer of difficulty to successful bird work. Our sincere thanks go to our judges, seasoned field trial competitors Mike Northwood and Chad Chadwell; their expertise and careful attention ensured every dog had a fair opportunity to showcase its abilities. Our champion for the 2025 running on Course 2, with a very solid race and bird work at 38, was Pearl Jam Nation, owned and handled by Scott Jordan. Through hard work and training, Scott makes the difficult task of winning championships look easy.
This year's runner-up champion, Notorious Dominator's Reserve, with a find at 52 as he entered the Course 1 lek area, was owned and handled by John Mathys. Congratulations to both Scott and John!
Finally, I must make special mention of Don Dack, our dedicated and long-standing dog wagon driver. His unselfish commitment and incredibly hard work are absolutely indispensable to the success of our trials. Year after year, Don goes above and beyond, putting in an immense effort to ensure everything runs smoothly across the multiple courses. His tireless efforts are truly the backbone of these events, and we are profoundly grateful for his unwavering dedication.
