The Peninsula Bird Hunters held its trial on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at Dr. Aubrey Morgan's Cutawhiskie Farm in Ahoskie, North Carolina. As always, the grounds were in great shape. It takes a lot of work to keep the field trial grounds where you can ride through while still having enough cover to hold birds. Barbel Fetkoter wears many hats at Cutawhiskie, but her number one job is the bird program. She made sure the right amount of birds were released just before the trial.
We appreciate all the help we receive during the trial and would like to thank Purina for its sponsorship, and Barbel Fetkoter, Gary Winall, Ellen Winall, Park Brinkley, Gene Hogge, and Skip Brown for the grounds. Thanks to Lee Flanders, Donna Flanders, Jim Jones, and Nathan Hatchery for another great seafood lunch; to Steve Graham for planting and bringing food for the trial; and to our dog wagon drivers, Steven Moore, Julie Moore, Judy Jones, and Mert Jones.
The Puppy and Derby stakes were both judged by Gary and Ellen Winall. Gary and Ellen always jump in and help in any way that they can. We really appreciate all that they do. The Puppy stake was won by Charm City Marlo, a setter male owned and handled by Michael Mclntyre, who ran a strong, independent race. Second was Nomads Silent Reaper, a pointer male owned and handled by Worth Lewis, handled by Nathan Hatchery. Reaper was strong and animated on the ground. Third went to Jenna Johnson's Sunrise Shooting Star, a setter male. Star ran strong and to the front.
The Derby was won by Bob's Elhew Coco, owned and handled by Bobby Phillips. Coco had four nice finds, never forgetting her manners or her handler. Second was Back Creek Roxy, a setter female owned and handled by Steve Graham. Roxy had a nice forward race and one derby find. Third place was Ubetcha, a pointer male handled by Jameson Crandall. Ubetcha was a nice-looking dog on the ground and handled well for Jameson.
The judges for the Shooting Dog were Jeff Smith and George Doyle. These two are very generous with their time and very knowledgeable and professional in their job. We were lucky to have them judge for us. The Shooting Dog stake drew 20 dogs. Winning first place was Chippokes Kate, owned and handled by Lee Flanders. Kate ran a good shooting dog race and had two nice finds. Second was Mohawk Mill Big Stuff, owned by Gary Winall and handled by Ashby Morgan. Big ran strong to the front and had two good finds. Third was Jake the Joker, owned and handled by Frankie Barnes. Jake is a sleek-looking pointer male with a nice gait and had two good finds.
