Region 6 Walking SD ChF25

Region 6 Amateur Walking Shooting Dog Championship (l-r): Bubba Spencer (judge), Mike Fox (owner/handler) with Foxy Lady Sadie, Colt Spencer (future judge), Amy Spencer (judge), J. D. Waters with My Way Little Bud, Lisa Monroe (dog wagon driver), and Aaron McAfee (handler).

The renewal of this Walking Championship was a great success. A close group of amateur walking trialers had a great time, and everyone enjoyed the competition and atmosphere. If you have never been to an Amateur Walking Championship, you are missing out.
Amy and Bubba Spencer of Hickory Valley, Tennessee, accompanied by Colt, were our distinguished judges. Every trialer expressed to me that they were really pleased with how attentive, helpful, friendly, and professional they were. We were fortunate to have them judge, and we extend our heartfelt thanks to them. Their decision was well received.

Thanks to Cliff and Lisa Monroe for their side-by-side usage as dog wagon, handler ride, and bird planter. A good dog wagon and driver are essential for a successful trial, and none better than Lisa. The grounds were in great shape, the facilities were good, and there were plenty of birds. All this made for a great trial. We would also like to thank Sportsman's Pride for their support and dog food for winners; without them, this trial wouldn't happen. Also, thank Cliff Monroe and Ronnie Rogers for donating Garmin TT-25 collars to both the champion and the runner-up. Thanks to Region 6 and especially Lisa Little, who did the drawing and ad work.

Lots of bird work, which was undoing of several dogs, and a plus for champion and runner-up as they carded eight and seven finds respectively. Sadie ran in the third and final brace on Friday; she ran all the edges and found all the birds, with a couple of those finds that no one else pointed out. She was last year's champion and defended her title well. Percy Priest lets her show just how good this red dog can be. Runner-up ran in the first brace Friday for handler Aaron McAfee and owner J. D. Waters. This pair of Illinois trialers always supports each other and, between them, have a nice string of dogs. Bud had an astounding race, a little hard to handle, and carded seven finds. This pair separated themselves really nicely, and everyone had them winning. Always nice to have a good pair of dogs to give titles to.

On Saturday, several good dogs ran but couldn't move the winners. A lot of birds were pointed on Saturday also, but with different wind patterns, no one could get a great complete hour together.
