The Midwest Open Shooting Dog Championship concluded March 20, 2026. The trial was contested over the Bill Westfall ranch near Elk City, Kansas. Judges for the championship were Lynn Oxendine and Scott Thielen. Virgil Moore joined Scott to judge the derby.
Topp's First Junior was named Champion. Junior is owned by Luke and Rita Topp and was handled by Harold Gearhart. Junior ran a strong race and pointed a wild covey with style and polished manners. Rob's Edge owned and handled by Ryan Eichelberger was named runner up. Edge had three finds and stood with good manners as birds were flushed.
A strong field of derbies was drawn for this stake. Hale's Southern Flyer is owned by Dr. Jeff Hale and was handled by Shawn Kinkelaar. Flyer won first place on the basis of a forward race and one polished find. Touch's Maximus handled by his owner Klaus Schmidt placed second with a divided find and a forward race. Kinkelaar handled Silver W Ringafire to third place. Fire had a divided find and stood mannerly to the flush of a wild covey. Fire is owned by Mike Blanton and David Taylor.
