The Hanover Field Trial Association's spring U. S. Complete trial was held on Saturday, March 7, at the Cohoke Shooting Preserve. The Association would like to thank the Gottwald family for allowing the trial to be held on their private shooting preserve.

The facilities were in good condition for the field trial. The club is fortunate to have use of these pristine grounds for field trials. It was a beautiful sunny day, a good day to run dogs.
Sadly, the groundskeeper, Dennis Bosewell, passed away suddenly shortly before the trial. The Hanover Club will surely miss him.

We want to thank Purina for being the National Sponsor of the U. S. Complete weekend and championship trials. Purina is providing discount coupons for their dog food to all dogs who have earned placements in the various stakes.

Several club members pitched in to make this field trial a success. David Coleman and Kirk Regensburg planted birds. Retta Ramkey typed the program. Eleanor Mourino provided the Kawasaki Mule, which Steve Graham used to transport both dogs and handlers to the starting line. Pat Brooks provided the gallery wagon. Dennis Kivikko drove the truck that pulled the gallery wagon.

Charlotte Regensburg provided lunch. The Hanover Club is fortunate to have many members and wives who help make this trial a success. We appreciate everyone's help in making our trial a success.

There were 12 dogs in the Puppy stake, judged by Jenna Johnson and Kirk Regensburg. The Derby stake had four dogs, and 16 dogs were entered in the Shooting Dog stake, both judged by Ralph Fleming and Johnny Lewis.

"Marlo" took first in the Puppy stake. Owned and handled by Mike McIntyre, Marlo is a nice, big running male setter and handled very well. He hit his objectives purposefully and was very impressive. Marlo is very attractive on the ground. Second was "Molly," a pointer female. Handled by Greg Isenberg, she had a big run and handled well. Molly is a nice, pretty running dog on the ground. Third place was "Mack," a pointer male. Handled by Mike McIntyre, Mack handled well and hit all his objectives. The Puppy stake was large and impressive, with good running on the ground.

In the Derby Stake, "Tuff," a pointer male, took first place. Handled by Frankie Barnes, Tuff had five finds and hit all his objectives. He finished well. Second place was "Kelly," a pointer male handled by Kirk Regensburg. Kelly had six finds and hunted for his birds. He finished with a big run. Third place was "Coco," a pointer male handled by Bobby Phillips. Coco had a big run with three finds and two backs. He is a nice dog on the ground.

The Shooting Dog stake was very competitive. The grounds at Cohoke can be challenging, as they are not very big and can be tight at times. At the same time, between big turns in the course and the ups and downs of the terrain, it can be easy to lose a dog, especially on foot. The winning dogs in this stake were always found forward, stayed in touch with their handlers, and showed themselves consistently, with style and composure, on a lot of impeccable bird work.

In the Shooting Dog stake, "Frank," a pointer male handled by Greg Isenberg, took first. Frank chewed up the course with gusto and had seven finds. He was steady and handled well. Throughout the course, Frank appeared to be a happy dog, cracking his tail and covering lots of ground with a nice rhythm between finds. Frank did a great job on the ground and stood like a statue on his birds.
"Jack," a setter male handled by Lee Flanders, had four finds and two backs. Jack had a great run and finished nicely. "Heart," a pointer female, was third. Owned and handled by Verlene Stephenson, she had five finds and one back. Heart had a big finish at the end.
Frank was named Dog of the Day, winning the Waverly Coleman Shooting Dog trophy.

The Club would like to thank all the participants and guests for coming. The Association looks forward to its next U.S. Complete trial, scheduled for the fall of 2026.
In closing, we would like to pay tribute to two long-time members of the Hanover Field Trial Association who sadly passed away last year: Art Mourino (April 9, 2025) and George Ramkey (December 8, 2025).

Both Art and George were instrumental in putting on our trials. Always there to help with whatever was needed. They will be greatly missed.
