The Maine Bird Dog Club held its annual Mother's Day trial in Brownfield, Maine. The club wishes to thank Purina and all the participants who came out for the two days of events. Judging for us this year were Jon Cullen, Cal Richardson, Sam Jackson, Deb Kennedy, and Roy Hargreaves. We had a nice gathering of professional and amateur handlers, first-time trialers, and old timers. Bruce Burnell provided lunches, Kellie Short made sure the birds were planted, the judges, dogs, and handlers were on the line, and placements were awarded in a speedy fashion. One of the club's founders, Bob Paucek, came down for a day. It's always a treat to spend time with a man who has seen it and done it all when it comes to bird dogs and trialing. A force of nature, Bob continues to inch closer to his 100th birthday, now less than two years away. The rain held off for the most part, and even the biting insects, while making their presence known, kept their annoying ways to a minimum. Overall, it was a fun and relaxing event.
