Result: U. S. Complete Shooting Dog Association Trial

The Peninsula Bird Hunters ran a U. S. Complete Shooting Dog Association trial on February 27 at Dr. Aubrey Morgan's Cutawhiskey Farm in Ahoskie, N. C. Dr. Morgan left his farm for the Virginia Amateur Field Trial Association and others to enjoy the sport of field trialing.

We were so fortunate to be able to run on these grounds. The people in charge of the farm could not have been more generous to us, opening up the grounds and clubhouse for all to use and make themselves comfortable. The folks on the board and the many workers never stop improving the farm. Just this year, a big tract of land has been cleared, the clubhouse was doubled in size and more land was clear-cut. It is a great place to run and show a dog.

The bird program at Cutter Whiskey is just amazing. Headed up by Barbel Fetkoter, she oversees all aspects from raising to feeding and releasing the birds. I am amazed at how great this program has taken off.

We would like to thank our judges, Parke Brinkley and Rob McGuire who gave up their time and had a long day in the saddle. Their decisions were well received.

Thanks to the many people who helped put on the trial -- and there were many!

Special thanks to Steve Graham, who came out and helped even though he is not running a dog at this time, and to Matthew Flanders who always comes and helps in any way he can.

THE WINNERS

Pointer female Pirate's Mean Louise won the Shooting Dog Stake for her owner and handler Dennis Kivikko. Louise had a large covey find at the 5-minute mark. Her manners were impeccable. She continued her thirty minutes with more finds and a strong forward ground race. Second went to Chippoke's Hoss Man for Lee Flanders. Hoss had one find at 15. His style was high and tight for the flush and shot. Hoss had one of the best races of the day. Third was Phillips Half Moon for owner and handler Matthew Phillips. Moon had a covey find right off of the breakaway and another find at about the 12-minute mark. Moon has a lot of class and style.

Chippoke's Gypsy Girl won the Derby for owner and handler Lee Flanders. Gypsy ran a strong race with two finds. Second was kennelmate Chippoke's Cracker Jack for owner-handler Lee Flanders. Jack had a nice race with one Derby find. Third was Ignite the Night for owner and handler Matthew Phillips. Night had one find and a more moderate race.

The Puppy Stake was won by M.J. for owner and handler Matthew Phillips. M. J. had a nice forward race, hunting all the birdie objects. Second place was Hasting's Dolly Parton, owner and handler J. R. Hastings. Dolly also had a strong forward ground race.
