Result: Cove Creek Field Trial Club

Location: Bedford, Pennsylvania

Post Date: Apr 10, 2021

Submitted By: Bruce Mueller

The Cove Creek Field Trial Club conducted its inaugural field trial on April 10.

The club is named after the limestone stram, Cove Creek, that borders the grounds on two sides. The stream is known for its ". . . long gliding pools where trout often rise in the failing light of evening . . ." It traverses though dairy country in agricultural rich Friends Cove, Bedford County, Pa. Fifty years ago, hunters couild encounter four-five coveys of quail and ringneck pheasants on a morning's hunt. But, like so many other regions those are now considered the "Good Old Days" and sadly many who remember those times are gone as well.

We would like to thank the Pennsylvania Game Commission and specifically Land Manager Jonathan Zuck of the Pennsylvania Game Commission for his and his crews management of Gamelands #97, formally known as The Biddle Place. We had numerous compliments on the cover and the conditions of the area used for our trial.

We also want to thank Purina for the gift of coupons for the winners and the U. S. Complete and their Secretary Mike Spotts for his help with our trial.

I personally want to thank Eric Locher and Jeff Keller for wanting to help and being there to plant birds, answer questions, help the judges and anything that needed done to make our trial a success.

The day began with Amateur Derby, Judges Bruce Mueller and Eric Locher awarding Mountain Top Ryn, a female setter owned and handled by Jeff Keller, top honors. Runner-up position was awarded to Beaver Meadow Boo, an orange and white setter female owned and handled by Nick Blakley.

After a short break for refreshments, Judges Carlos Escalante and Dave Blakley began their duties evaluating the amateur shooting dogs. The final dog to run, Doodle Ridge Elroy, a setter male owned and handled by Bruce Mueller, was chosen the winner. Second place was granted to Dooddle Ridge Fern, setter female also owned and handled by Bruce Mueller. The third placement was awarded to Leslie's Cisco Kid, a setter female handled by her owner Les Bressler.

We look forward to running this event next year.
