INOLA, OKLA. -- The 2019 NBHA Western Regional Championship was held March 15 at the McFarlin-Ingersoll Ranch in Inola, Okla., hosted by the Tulsa Bird Dog Association.

The weather was excellent and the turnout reflected the efforts that have been made to regrow the walking trial circuit in Northeastern Oklahoma.

Professional handlers and amateurs from all over the country made the trek to Inola and the weekend saw an entry of 60 dogs -- 24 for the Championship.

The TBDA would like to thank all of our members who helped put on the trial. They are too numerous to name here for fear of leaving someone out. We'd also of course like to thank our sponsors, Purina, Garmin, Gun Dog Central, Gun Dog Supply and Mule Clothing.

Judges Dr. Kurt Ochsner and Kevin Guess as well as puppy judges Barry Moore and Dan Hensley rode tall in the saddle and watched the dogs with a keen eye and attention to detail. The TBDA is lucky to have Melanie Seaman to plant birds. Without her, we would be lost!

And of course, as always, we want to say a special thanks to Winn Ingersoll and his family for allowing us the use of such a storied and historic ranch on which to run our trials. It is not often that clubs have access to such facilities as these. We are eternally grateful.

The competitors that travel far and wide for these championships are the glue that holds it all together. We had people from at least seven states this year. For a regional walking championship, we think that's pretty special.

We look forward to seeing everyone again next year, hopefully with the same weather and even more dogs than this year!
