REGINA, VA. -- LCFTA's annual U.S. Complete Shooting Dog Association trial was held January 23 in Lancaster, Va. The trial began at 7:30 a.m. It was 25 and there was an icy frost on the ground.

Lee Flanders and his young female pointer, Gypsy Girl, won the Puppy Stake. Second was awarded to Beechwoods Whata Hot Mess (Ellie Mae), female setter handled by Phil Townley. Third was awarded to Jake, male pointer, owned by Mitch Forrester and handled by Jimmy Crandall. The club appreciates Kirk Regensburg and Steve Graham judging the puppies.

Mr. Flanders was also successful in the Derby. His handsome male setter male Cracker Jack won. Jack had finished finds and withstood tremendous pressure from his bracemate. Second place also went to Lee with his pointer male Brier Creek Bo. Third place went to John Oliver and his solid white male pointer, Sand Bank's Little Hoss.

The Shooting Dog Stake drew sixteen dogs. Johnny Lewis and Garrett Preis graciously judged this stake in the frigid wind.

Ringo's Sweet Heart, a liver and white female pointer bred, owned, and handled by Verlene Stephenson, gave the judges and gallery the type of performance that makes you stand up in your stirrups. She finished her bid with three finds, two backs and a reaching range to claim first place. Sweet Heart also won first place at this trial last year.

Second place went to Lancaster's Hit Man (Mugsy), pointer male owned and handled by Jimmy Crandall. Mugsy had two backs and was found standing tall on two finds. Third place was Lee Flanders and his setter male Chippoke's Hoss Man. Hoss ran at a consistent forward range and scored five finds.

Thank you to everyone who brought entries and helped with the trial. Thanks also to Purina for their undeviating sponsorship.
