DANCYVILLE, TENN. -- The NBHA returned to the grounds of West Tennessee for the 2020-2021 renewal of our National Open Championship.

This year the course was set on the meticulously groomed property owned by Dr. Gene Spiotta. The rolling 'plantation style' acreage offered numerous objectives and ample fields which allowed the dogs to show their application.

The West Tennessee Field Trial Club has been in existence since the early 1900s and some of the largest and most storied field trials in history have been run over these grounds. Not to mention a who's who of field trial royalty that grace the walls of the clubhouse and many times are part of the crowd at evening happy hour.

There aren't enough words to express our gratitude to Dr. Spiotta's family, Blake Kukar, Bill and Julia Currie, Ross Calloway, and the entire West Tennessee Field Trial Club for their generosity, help, and for providing such a quality venue to run the National Championship. They went above and beyond every single day and in every way to make this event a great one.

These are truly special people who go out of their way to provide everything we need to make this trial work. Every single participant that ran a dog over these grounds absolutely raved about this Championship, the grounds, the people, and how they hope that it continues to be THE venue for the National Championship for years to come. We 100% agree with them.

Special thanks also to our judges, Sean Hauser and Mark Livingston. Both men are extremely knowledgeable, impartial and helpful to all the participants. They are also the kind of people you enjoy having around -- honest, straight, and fair.

Big thanks also go out to our sponsors. We couldn't do what we do without the amazing support of Purina Pro Plan, Garmin, Gun Dog Supply, Mule Brand Clothing and Gun Dog Central.

This year we were fortunate enough to have secured World Class Bird Dogs which added a guaranteed $1000 to our payouts. Thank you Mick Marietta of Pittsburg, Kan., and your entire team for the dedication to field trialing and the NBHA.

Twenty-five dogs were brought to the line and after the thirteenth brace the judges called back four with two on standby. They were: Bob's Elhew Kate, Jimfork's Black River, Sulphur Bend Woodman and Indian Creek Courageous Cat with standby dogs being Dale Creek Flash Finish and Pure Confidence.

While running the callback series three of the dogs were out of pocket and lost, with Woodman being left in a wooded draw on point. The standby dogs came to the line and temptation got the best of Pure Confidence, and Dale Creek Flash Finish suffered his second unproductive at the 1:05-minute mark.

The judges felt strongly enough that there were three dogs that set themselves above all the rest from in the initial series

We would again like to thank all of the people of the West Tennessee Field Trial Club for the fabulous grounds, facilities, and assistance with making the trial a success.

The NBHA National committee should also be commended for their HARD work -- AnaLeah Sasser, Sylvester Ridings, Joe Hopkins and Greg Blair.

We look forward to continuing running championships at West Tennessee! If you are a bird dog fan, you will thoroughly enjoy the country and people of Danceyville and should make every effort to attend a trial there.
