HOWELL, UTAH -- After a long winter with extreme snowfall that saw many trials cancelled or rescheduled throughout the West, the Utah Field Trial Association held its spring trial March 30 in Howell, Utah in pleasant weather.

We thank Judges Mike Robbins of Mona, Utah, Kyle Christensen of Murray, Utah, Scott Evans of Fountain Green, Utah, and John Cushing of Rexburg, Ida., for giving each brace their attention and rendering their decisions.

Also thanks to Brett Burgi for help to marshal and planting the birds on the course.

Chris Perkins of American Falls, Ida., continued his winning streak by placing his dogs, pointer female Perkins Lakeside Wild Child, and Perkins Renegade Jade, German Shorthair female, first and second in the Open Shooting Dog. "June" rendered a solid race with an early find on a chukar followed by a pair of wild Huns and a stop to flush. "Jade" had a nice, forward handling shooting dog race with a single find and a back of bracemate. Janee's Touch of Fire, pointer male owned by Jason Staley, placed third with a nice stylish race.

The Open Derby was won by Mikey B Daybreak, pointer male owned by Josh Sutherland and handled by Doug Favor in the first brace. Mikey had an exciting, consistent race with one find on a chukar. His bracemate, A H Thrifty Cash, owned and handled by Dustin Dusenberry, ran really big initially, slowing a bit toward the end. H B V's Home Brew, German Shorthair female owned and handled by Doug Favor, handled well and had a point on a chukar.

Congratulations to all the placements!
