The 35th running of the Midwest Open Shooting Dog Championship drew 44 shooting dogs and 12 juveniles for the derby stake.
The venue for the trial was the Bill Westfall ranch near Elk City, Kan. William Smith and Chris Rider judged both stakes. Upfront';s Southern Star was named Champion. Star was handled by Shawn Kinkelaar and is owned by Lance Schults of Bismark, North Dakota. Tug O'War was named runner-up. War was also handled by Kinkelaar and is in the ownership of Bjorn Peterson. First place in the derby was awarded to Erin's Thunder Backus owned by Dr. Tom Jackson and Jerry Moissen. Miller's Kickstarter Rose owned by Ronnie Miller and handled by Eddy Taylor was runner-up. Third place in the derby was Big Man on Campus owned by Tom Darden. The first and third placed dogs were handled by Shawn Kinkelaar.
