Each year the Bay Area Bird Dog Club co-host's an Amateur championship stake which is run prior to the open stakes. This year that stake was the Region 11 Amateur All-Age Championship, which drew 34 dogs. The Amateur stake began Saturday, April 23, and concluded the following Monday, April 25. Declared champion was Kelly's Rebel Louie, white, liver and ticked pointer male, owned and handled by Sean Kelly of Loomis, Cal. Far West Bulider's Ace, white, liver and ticked pointer male, owned and handled by Mike Wilkin of Reno, Nev., was named runner-up. Judges for the championship were Randy Anderson of Vinita, Okla., and Lori Steinshouer of Reno, Nev.

The Pacific Coast Derby Championship, a National Championship, Purina Points, and Handler of the Year Points stake, drew 21 canine competitors. The derby championship began Tuesday, April 26, and concluded the following day, Wednesday April 27. Named champion was Touch's Amazing Greyce, white, liver and ticked pointer female, owned and handled by Austin Turley of Molt, Mont. I'm Gallant, white, black and ticked pointer dog owned by Jay McKenzie of Eureka, Kan., and handled by Randy Anderson of Vinita, Okla., was named runner-up. Judges for the championship were Gina Bosio of Modesto, Cal., and Clifford Mesnard II of Clyde, Ohio.

The Western Shooting Dog Championship began Thursday, April 28, and concluded the morning of Friday, April 29. This Purina Top Shooting Dog and Handler of the Year Points stake drew 16 canine entrants; there were no professional handlers with entries in this stake. Named champion was Lone Tree Splish Splash, white and orange pointer female, owned and handled by Bill Owen of Santa Barbara, Cal.. Maybellene, white, black and ticked setter female owned and handled by Tom Griffin of Esparto, Cal., was named runner-up. Judges for the Championship were Randy Anderson of Vinita, Okla., and Will Dunn of Lebanon, Ky.

The Western All-Age Championship began the afternoon of Friday, April 29, and concluded Sunday, May 1. This National Championship, Purina Points, and Handler of the Year Points stake drew 30 canine athletes. Named Champion was Kelly's I B Butler, white, liver and ticked pointer dog, owned and handled by Sean Kelly of Loomis, Cal. B M B's Free Ride, white, liver and ticked German Shorthair pointer male, owned by Brandon and Jennifer Blum of Berthoud, Colo., and handled by Brandon, was named runner-Up. Judges for the championship were John Keel of Fresno, Ca., and Jarry Walton of Reno, Nev.

The four championship stakes ran over a period of nine days under variable weather conditions, with handlers from ten different states participating.
