KEVIL, KY. -- All hands were on deck for the West Kentucky Spring trial.

West Kentucky Field Trial Club

Several changes occurred within 24 hours of the trial's beginning, including a judge and dog wagon driver having to cancel. Club members and participants were very helpful in ensuring a successful event.

All three stakes drew six dogs and all winners went home happy. Big thank you to Donnie Duckworth, Sarah Clary and Cora Clary who served as judges. Cora Clary served as scout, judge and reporter for the event. She stepped in to finish judging the Shooting Dog Stake when Donnie Duckworth had to excuse himself due to a family emergency.

The All-Age Stake, although small, had strong contenders including two Purina Dogs of the Year in Pendy's Good Grace and Dialed In, both handled by Matt Pendergest. He also handled his up-and-coming dog, Storm's End. Mike Crouse handled his strong competitors in Crouse's Equalizer and Crouse's Quiet Man. Mary Sue Schalk rounded out the field, handling the apple of her eye, Crouse's White Dragon. Pendy's Good Grace earned the blue, with Crouse's White Dragon taking second. Pendergest also handled the third place dog, Storm's End.

The Derby contenders all brought their wheels. Pendergest was back in the handler's saddle with Affinity and Storm's End. Crouse's Tennessee Game Kate and Crouse's Bonanza were under the whistle of Mike Crouse. While Tim Hammons brought two Irish setters males to complete the field. Pointer females swept the stake -- Affinity, first, Storm's End, second, and Crouse's Tennessee Game Kate rounded out the Derby placements.

The Shooting Dog Stake started on Saturday afternoon. Tim Hammons ran both Roses Are Red and A Little More Shine. Mike Crouse ran Crouse's High Mark, Crouse's Icee Beauty. Kennedy's Tying Force was a last-minute scratch due to illness at home. The Irish setter, Roses Are Red, won the stake with Crouse's Icee Beauty taking second. A Little More Shine took third for Kris and Tim Hammons.

The West Kentucky Field Trial Club extends a huge thank you to all participants--this trial was certainly an effort of heart on so many due to unforeseen challenges prior to and during the event. Congratulations to winners and best of luck next season!
