The 2023 NGSPA Savannah River Championships were held at Showtime Plantation in Bronwood, Ga., starting on February 5. Thank you to the landowners, Larron and Laura Copeland, for graciously allowing us to use this beautiful place. We look forward to this being "home" for these trials. Thank you to Larron, Colt, Brady, and Scooter Jones for marshaling the courses and dog wagon duties. We had beautiful weather, plenty of wild birds, three one-hour courses, and a superb plantation. We also enjoyed using the clubhouse with a patio for viewing parts of the trial and the wildlife. You should already be making plans to attend next year.
Thank you to Purina for their support of these trials. Also, thanks to Greg Blair, Carl Gunzer, and Terry Trzcinski for all your work behind the scenes. Thank You to SportDOG and Mr. Jim Morehouse for always supporting us with collars.
Thank you to Diane Coppens, Becky and Andy Dynkiewicz, Art Terstage, and Cheryl and Gale Graves for helping with lunches, suppers, and the clubhouse. Thank you to everyone who helped clean up after supper and lunches.
We want to thank all the participants, Dan DiMambro, April Raber, Joe Orndorff, Kirk Loftin, Sherri Tangsrud, Hank and Dina Lewis, Doug and Heather Miller, Lindsay Cuming, Andy Dynkiewicz, Art Terstage, Anthony Rusciano, and Peter Coppens. Hopefully, we didn't forget anyone. Without the support of everyone, we could not have these Championships.
Thank you to our judges--George Hickox, Debbie Ozner, Jarrett Bell, Dave Walker, Gary Hill, T. K. Smith, Joe Orndorff, Allison Bell, and Kirk Loftin, for their time in the saddle.
Thank you to Mrs. Dan DiMambro (April Raber) for cleaning the clubhouse after the championships and to Diane Coppens, our secretary/treasurer, for all the paperwork and constant reminders and for trying to keep us on the straight and narrow. Our scribe was President Peter Coppens, with help from the judges. Thank you, Peter and Art Terstage (and the rest of the board), for your dedication to this sport. This Championship would not happen if it were not for you.
NGSPA SAVANNAH RIVER OPEN SHOOTING DOG CHAMPIONSHIP
The Championship Series started with the Savannah River Shooting Dog on February 5. Eighteen German shorthair pointers entered the stake, and we had beautiful Georgia weather.
Uodibar's Robbi Jo was named champion. Robbi, a female owned by Sherri Tangsrud and handled by Kirk Loftin, ran on the first day in brace No. 4. She was gone forward from the breakaway. She had finds at 35 and 55 with all manners in order and finished the hour strong and to the front. This performance earned her the championship title.
Runner-up went to Monkeyshines Callme The Breeze ("Breezy"), a female owned and handled by Dan DiMambro and April Raber. Breezy ran a forward race and handled well for Dan in the first brace of day two. She was found on point at 45 and worked birds successfully. Breezy had a forward and consistent shooting dog run and was rewarded with the runner-up placement.
