The Central Prairie Field Trial Club held its spring trial this year at Sandy Run Hunt Club. Our grounds at Orchardville were unavailable for this trial, so Bill at Sandy Run graciously allowed us to hold our trial at his hunt club. We used two courses to handle the large number of dogs we drew out. The weather forecast was not good, but we never had to put on rain gear the entire day. So many people we need to thank when a field trial happens. The judges were Jim Ashby, Jeff Marshall, Rick Stanford, Frank Christie, Ted Ellis, and your scribe Dan Crunk. The judges worked hard to watch and evaluate each dog in every stake; thanks for a job well done. Jae Crunk prepared lunches with some of her homemade cookies. Trial Chairman Rick Stanford and your scribe pulled off a well-run trial, especially for the large number of dogs that competed.

In the Amateur Shooting Dog, Buck, a setter handled by Don Heisner, had two finds and ran a front-running race to catch the eyes of the judges. Buck took home the first-place plaque. Don and his two setter males are always a force when they show up for a trial. The second-place plaque went to Roxie, handled by Craig Hiatt. Roxie was just off of a National Championship. Roxie had three finds for her half hour. Hawk, a setter handled by Rob Warner, had one find and a forward race.

In the Amateur Derby, Jeff Marshall brought Radom, an Irish setter male, to the line and finished the 30 minutes with three finds. Radom took home first place with a fine performance on the day. Second place went to a young pointer female, Dixie, handled by Kevin Western. Dixie also had three finds and a quality race searching all the likely places quail should be. Craig Hiatt brought his young pointer male, Max, to the line and took home the third-place plaque. Max carded one find for his 30 minutes.

First place in a strong Amateur Puppy entry went to a pointer male, Jake, handled by Ted Ellis. Jake, when turned loose, filled up the country. To the front and always had his tail up on his back as the judges liked. Travis Patterson, a newcomer to field trials, has had a spectacular year with his young puppies. Today, Brittany Artie finished second, and Boomer, his pointer male, finished third. These two are always in contention with their ace and attractive gaits.
John Landolina has just recently started attending our field trials in Southern Illinois. He brings a nice string of German shorthairs to the starting line. Today Diamond German Shorthair female won the Amateur Shooting Dog with four finds, with several of the finds, shooting dog broke finds. Diamond ran a very forward-pleasing race. Second place went to Jack, an Irish setter male handled by David McCuan. Jack had nine finds and was on his game today. The third-place plaque went to Craig Hiatt handling Sadie, his three-legged dog. Sadie lost a rear leg in an accident but hunts with speed and searches all the likely spots.

Again, we thank Bill at the Sandy Run Hunt Club in Bluff City for allowing us to use this wonderful facility to hold our spring trial. Thanks to our judges, who worked tirelessly to do a great job.
The Central Prairie Field Trial Club would like to thank our national sponsors, who add so much to each event. Thanks to Purina, Gun Dog Supply, Garmin, and Mule Hunting Clothing for their gracious and continued support of the NBHA.
