HUNTINGDON, TENN. -- The Memphis Amateur Field Trial Club, one of the country's oldest active clubs dating back circa 1930s held its annual renewal January 20-23.

After having to postpone the 2021 event earlier, the trial was rescheduled to this date and moved to the beautifully manicured grounds owned by the Williams family and others. These grounds located in Huntingdon, Tenn., are a central venue for many and serve as host for a several amateur and open events. The Carroll County crew is a gracious host and always on hand and obliging to their guests.

Judging this year's stakes were Gary McKibben and David Russell in the Shooting Dog and Derby, while Joe Hughes and Scott Little took the judicial saddle for the all-age. Each of these gentlemen run and train their own dogs and kept a watchful eye on each contestant.

THE WINNERS

Winning the 22-dog All-Age was coming four-year-old pointer female Coldwater Paradise for owner and handler Gary McKibben of Hernando, Miss. "Josie" recorded two fins in her hour coupled with a strong forward running race. Taking second place was consistent winner Pendy's Good Grace for her fond owner Matt Pendergest of Lexington, Ky. Grace also scored on quail twice in her hour. Rounding out all the ladies in the winners' circle this year was Rebel Grace which had one find in her hour for David Williams.

In the Derby, Lacy's Cool Hand Luke took first place honors for Perry Lacy of Kentucky. Luke was strong to the front in his brace recording an outstanding find on a large cover near pickup. Consistent winner this year, Phillips Linebacker gained second for Mike Small. Awakened owned by Jim and Matt Pendergest was third.

J Maple Jester topped the Shooting Dog field with two finds in a smooth running hour while her kennelmate J Maple Lucy gained second place laurels with a front-running one-find performance. Both dogs are owned by Joe and Tessa Hughes of Remlap, Ala., and handled by Joe. Rebel Grace was back in the winners' circle in the Shooting Dog showing her versatility. Grace was shown on game once in her hour for David Williams of nearby Beach Bluff, Tenn.

There are so many people to thank for making this trial a success. In any field trial the ground crew make it happen. This week John Burrow stepped in to drive the dog wagon and watch the road crossings. The trio of ladies -- Lisa Little, Angie Williams and Michelle Clark -- served delicious meals both noon and night throughout the trial.

Lastly, my thanks to David Williams and the entire Carroll County crew for allowing us the use of these beautiful grounds. The hard work and dedication to this sport does not go unnoticed.
